Jack was born in New York City in 1974 to Indian immigrant parents, and grew up cultivating a love of music which ... was wasted on a family who wanted a doctor, realtor, or businessman. He made a few attempts at fame for the sake of validation, but a false talent scout bled him dry of his life savings in a scam, leaving him to fend for himself. He used what he had left to buy a portable keyboard, and started busking in subway stations, waiting tables and doing other odd jobs at night. Eventually, he got a job playing at a piano bar in Manhattan, and now he lives comfortably off of his gigs, still busking during the day for the different crowd energy and interactions.
In terms of personality, he is headstrong and extremely stubborn. Once he knows what he wants - in life, in love, and anywhere in between - Jack will rarely take no for an answer. He doesn't believe in beating around the bush or putting on false facades for the sake of good impressions. What people see is what he is, always, and most often, the people he allows close to him exhibit the same honesty. He is friendly and outgoing, charismatic to a fault, but keeps most people at a comfortable distance until he knows that he can trust them.
The most important thing about Jack's talent is that it goes beyond sheer musicianship. Over the past few years, he has come to realize that his music has the power to affect the emotions of those around him. He can use a tune to magnify or diminish the mood of a room, calming down barfights or boosting the mood of a depressed room. He's careful about this power, and doesn't look to abuse it, only using it when he feels like it's absolutely necessary.
Jack is also openly gay, completely unapologetic about it, and may be particularly blunt in conversation. If you'd rather avoid certain topics in threads with him, please feel free to consider this an opt-out post.
UMBRELLA ACADEMY AU: The same, save that Jack was born on October 1st, 1989 in The City instead of New York. Easy shift.

May. 15th, 2019 09:50 pmThe night had been quiet, but still, Jack had played his way through for the handful of patrons that came into the bar. He wasn't being paid to only play when the place was full, after all. When the stools and booths were empty, he played for the staff. When there was only one couple or a group of friends, he'd play for them - romance or upbeat tunes meant for fellowship. As the night reached its conclusion, however, he turned his eye back to his setlist, and went for the tunes he knew so well he could play them in his sleep. It was easier that way, since his energy was waning a little. He always seemed to have more left at the end of a busy night, as if the crowd kept his mind and heart fed.
Only five songs or so remained, but he paused after a pleasant rendition of Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters to get up and refill his glass at the bar, tipping his head up in a nod with a smile to the man sitting there.
